Scars Dermabrasion

Scars can be painful and unattractive reminders of accidents, surgery or skin conditions that most people would prefer to forget about.

Prominent scars can attract stares and questioning that most people are extremely uncomfortable about so cosmetic procedures have been developed to treat, reduce and even eliminate scarring so that people who have lived with it can feel more comfortable with their bodies and even experience an improved self-esteem.

Dermabrasion is one of the many techniques that can be used to remove scarring and skin imperfections. During scars dermabrasion a hand-held electronic tool, affixed with a rotating wire brush or sanding tool containing diamond particles, is used to scrape off the scarred outer layers of skin so that new skin growth is encouraged.

The idea behind the process is to eventually smooth out the grooves that scars can leave in the skin.

If you do decide that you would like to undergo the dermabrasion procedure to treat your scars you should first make sure that you find a plastic surgeon that you can trust to do the procedure. Go in for a few consultations until you are sure that you have found a qualified individual with a good track record and a long list of satisfied clients.

When you schedule your surgery make sure that you take enough time off so that you can heal properly without having to worry about anything. If you only have dermabrasion done on a small area you might only need a few days to recover, but if you have an extensive procedure done, especially on facial scarring you will want to have a few weeks off so that you can give your scars time to heal and so that you won't have to worry about people questioning your appearance.

Keep in mind that dermabrasion is a serious procedure so you will want to make sure you have all your questions answered by your plastic surgeon before you go in to have it done.

Although you probably won't be able to see the results until few weeks after your surgery, once your wounds heal you are sure to be impressed. Many people realize after surgery that using dermabrasion to treat scars not only encourages a physical change, but it can encourage an emotional transformation as well.
