Eye Lift Recovery
In most cases, after the eyelift surgery there is usually minimal pain, and you can control it easily with mild pain reliever medications like Tylenol or Advil. Usually, for the first day, after the surgery the patients is asked to put gauze pads soaked with ice water or to put specifically designed ice packs over the eyes in order to reduce swelling and bruising. They should replace the ice packs every twenty minutes or so while staying awake.
Ice will not only reduce the swelling but also will keep bruise discoloration to absolute minimum and it is also soothing to the skin. Additionally, the patients may be asked to keep the eyes moist with saline eye drops. Also, antibiotic ointment can be prescribed to be used for at least a week once the surgery is done.
The black and blue bruises will usually disappear by the beginning of second week of recovery. If any stitches were used than removing of the stitches from the eye region should happen within five to seven days after the surgery. The incisions heal really well and quickly because of the thinness of the eyelid skin. You will probably have a very hard time trying to see the incisions or the tiny scars, at all.
The redness and bruising can be covered with makeup.
If you decide to get an eye lift by going through one of the alternative eyelift surgeries know that these procedures are even more amazing when it comes to recovery time. Lots of plastic surgeons provide options for correcting certain signs of aging, such as crow's feet, frown lines, and forehead wrinkles, in small steps, without the invasive surgery (you may want to enquire about the alternative options when you go for your consulation). Because these procedures are done over a period of short office visits, these mini-treatments are sometimes referred to as lunchtime procedures. The recovery time is virtually non-existent.
Whatever eyelift surgery you decide to go for, the most important thing to remember is to be prepared ahead of time. In most cases eye lift patients can be back at work the next day or within a week if the bruising is significant. You should probably avoid strenuous activities but regular exercise can be resumed in about two weeks. It is important however to avoid contact sports or any activity that may result in your face being touched roughly.
Since you will be limiting your activity for the first couple of days after your surgery, set up a recovery area before you leave for your surgery. Here are some things to include in it:
- Make sure you have all the medications that your plastic surgeon recommends, such as pain medications, mouth rinses and creams.
- Make sure you have a thermometer, so you can take your temperature if you suspect a fever. A fever may be an indication of an infection.
- Gauze or dressing to absorb any bleeding.
- A telephone with a list of doctors, friends, etc., in case of an emergency.
