Breast Reduction and Lift

One of the most common criticisms of plastic surgery is that it is driven by purely cosmetic reasons. These critics often connect plastic surgery techniques like breast lift surgery with vanity and often wonder why plastic surgery patients lack a resolve to accept their natural bodies. What these critics do not consider is that many plastic surgery patients are burdened by their natural bodies. This is particularly true for breast lift surgery patients that undergo this treatment to reduce the size of their breasts.

Large breasts that are disproportionate to a person's body may result in embarrassment in the individual and may be a motivating factor in undergoing breast lift surgery. However, for the most part, breast reduction and lift are motivated by the impractical consequences of large breasts that are out of proportion to that individual's body size. Breast reduction is often sought after by individuals that experience back, neck, and shoulder pain caused by breasts too large and heavy for their bodies.

Although there is a plastic surgery procedure known as breast reduction (or as it called medically, reduction mammaplasty) that removes a significant amount of breast tissue and remodels the remaining breast tissue, breast reduction through breast lift is a popular surgical technique to solve the problem of excessively large breasts. Breast reduction and lift rectifies this problem by removing excessive breast skin and sometimes a small amount of breast tissue. A cosmetically geared surgery, breast reduction through a breast lift results in the patient acquiring a youthful breast shape. However, more importantly is the fact that a breast lift also leads to breast tissue firmness, which in turn will result in a reduction of the physical problems caused by excessive breast tissue.

A quick surgical treatment that lasts between one and three hours, breast lifts is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures. In 2002, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reported that there were a total of 62,458 cases of breast lift surgery performed. Undoubtedly a major component of these total cases was from individuals that sought this treatment to reduce their breasts and also the problems associated with them.

By undergoing this treatment, breast reduction and lift patients often find that they have obtained a new lease in life. Freed from the physical (and often emotional and mental) problems that were caused by large breasts that were disproportional to their body type, breast reduction and lift patients often find that they are now more confident in their day to day lives. Through this treatment, many patients feel that they have obtained the bodies that they should have naturally had.
