Breast Lift Procedure
Nobody enjoys surgery, regardless of the end result that it should produce. A scary process in spite of the qualifications of the medical practitioner performing the surgery, one of the best ways to combat this fear of undergoing surgery is to learn more about the specific procedure of that surgery.
One of the most popular procedures performed in the field of plastic surgery is breast lift surgery. Medically known as mastopexy, breast lift surgery is renowned for having one of the fastest, most efficient, and safest procedures among plastic surgery operations. A breast lift procedure will include the actual surgical work that usually takes one to three and a half hours to complete.
The breast lift surgery is generally performed at an outpatient center. The reason for this is based on cost containment for the patient and convenience for the plastic surgeon. However, breast lift treatments can take place in other settings. For example, breast lift surgeries often are performed at a hospital or a plastic surgeon's office-based facility.
Detailing one standard for breast lift procedures is difficult as there are three different types of breast lift surgical techniques and four different types of scars that result from these different breast lift procedures. The three different types of breast lift surgical techniques are: concentric mastopexy, a surgical technique that removes excess skin around the areola border that is marked by the drawing of concentric circles around the patient's areola; vertical mastopexy, the breast lift surgical method of removing excess skin around the areola by making a vertical incision that descends from the areola down to the bottom fold of the patient's breasts that is also the location where their breast meet their chest; and anchor-shaped mastopexy, which is the most common breast implant surgical technique that removes excess skin by following a pattern of a keyhole shape above the nipple and areola and an anchor shape that is found at the bottom of the keyhole that goes from the right to left side of the breast.
Considering the different breast implant surgical techniques that plastic surgeons have at their disposal, it is recommended that you consult with a plastic surgeon regarding the surgical method that they feel is most appropriate to your condition. The type of anesthesia that a plastic surgeon applies to their patients is based on the breast implant surgical method that the plastic surgeon will use. For the most part, breast lift procedures incorporate general anesthesia during the surgery. Considering that it is the deepest form of anesthesia, general anesthesia will eliminate any pain that is felt by the patient during the surgery. This is because general anesthesia results in the patient being in a deep sleep throughout the procedure. However, for breast lift patients that are undergoing a breast lift surgery that requires just a small incision, local anesthesia may be applied (often in combination with an oral sedative). Although the patient is awake throughout the breast lift surgery, they will be relaxed and feel at most minimal discomfort during the treatment. |
